"He gets it honest"

"He gets it honest", four little words I have heard out of my mother's mouth since Fisher started showing his personality around 3 years ago.  Yes, I gave birth to a male version of myself.  I am pretty sure that is what this whole southern saying is all about!

One of my mom's favorite stories about me growing up is "How Melissa Caught The Check Up".  When I was 4 or 5, my best friend at daycare was out of school because she had to go to the doctor.  The next day, I woke up and was so bad off that I told my mom I just couldn't make it to school.  After many questions and her checking me over to find out what was wrong, I said in the most pitiful voice, "I think I have what Dawn had."  Mom was very concerned because someone else already had a diagnosis!  She asked what it was.  "I think I have...The Checkup."

That's right!  My friend had been out of school to go for a checkup.  I heard it and decided I could play hooky with it, too!  Of course, I didn't know what a checkup was at the time.  Needless to say, mom packed my butt off to school that morning!  And, I am pretty sure I made it through the day with no new symptoms.  I never did outgrow the whole "get sick to get out of school" phase.  I liked to think of my whole given "sick days" policy through school as "vacation days".

Apparently, Fisher has the same philosophy!  Two weeks ago he came down with the flu.  He has been to school one day of those two weeks.  Granted, he did have the flu.  I seriously doubt he is still going through the "flu" two weeks later but he swears he is not ready to go back to school.

Last week, I did not force him to school because he was still weak and had fever off and on.  This week, he is going back to school, like it or not.  I told him this morning it was a school day.  He goes into the bathroom and acts like he is going to throw up!  Anytime something does not go his way, he goes in the bathroom like he is going to throw up!

The really bad part is, his gag reflexes are so strong that he can voluntarily make himself throw up.  Since he was a baby, if he got mad at you for something...throw up.  Tell him no...throw up.  Can't ride in the car with Paw Paw...throw up.  I finally figured it out when he was 2 years old and figured out how to stop it.  He will cough until he throws up.  If he gets upset and starts coughing like he is going to do it, all you have to do is tell him to stop!  Of course, he knows it freaks his dad out so he will try it with him.

So, yes he is mine.  He likes to be at home.  He likes comfy clothes.  He will go all out with faking a sickness.  He just doesn't know, mommy knows his game!  Game on little man!  Game on!
